Description

Making the transition to online teaching and learning can be challenging, especially for courses that are accustomed to handwritten materials. In Math courses, writing out equations effectively with technology may prove challenging; in Chemistry courses, drawing structures by hand may be an important learning outcome of the course; or even in English courses, writing reflections or other work may add an important human element.

We know that these scenarios are common across courses and can be challenging to replicate online. DoIT recommends hardware and supports software that can achieve a similar, if not the same, outcome.

Join us for this workshop to explore three common scenarios instructors face while trying to replicate their handwritten materials digitally: distributing and receiving handwritten annotations, chalk and talk lectures, and facilitating student collaboration.

Workshop Learning Objectives:
  • Define instructional technology tools that can be used to create annotations and digitally created handwritten materials.
  • Describe use-cases and scenarios to apply a set of tools to accomplish specific pedagogical goals.
  • Summarize "high tech" and "low tech" solutions for chalk and talk lectures, annotations, and group collaboration.
  • Demonstrate different instructional technology tools that can be used together to share and publish digital annotations.

Our main presentation will take place from 10am-10:45am. Join us for a Deep Dive Q&A session from 10:45am-11:30am.

This workshop is an extension of Instructional Technology's PIVOT series, and will be included in the forthcoming PIVOT Solo. The main presentation will be recorded; however, the Deep Dive session will not be included.

This webinar will take place in a Blackboard Collaborate virtual conference room. Use the link below to enter the webinar up to 15 minutes before the start time: https://tinyurl.com/umbc-pivottools
