This site is meant to be a hub or collection of resources about online learning at UMBC. It is maintained by UMBC’s Division of Information Technology (DoIT) and Division of Professional Studies (DPS) which have a long history of collaboration to support online learning.
In the Spring of 2019, DoIT and DPS announced a major investment in online learning that — among other things — resulted in doubling the size of UMBC’s Instructional Technology support staff. Built upon a 2006 collaboration that resulted in the Alternative Delivery Program (ADP) for online and hybrid teaching, primarily in Winter and Summer special sessions, this collaboration has also recently led to 37 faculty completing a Quality Matters (QM) course redesign process across master’s programs in CAHSS and COEIT. Finally, the partnership between DoIT & DPS also proved to be fortuitous a year later when UMBC, like all higher education, pivoted to remote instruction and online learning as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
